This website is operated by Mushunga, Ibanda Children UK Charity("we", "us", "our"), a charity registered in England and Wales under charity number 1215211. We are the "data controller" for the personal information described in this policy under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

We only collect personal information that you choose to give us, or that is needed to deliver our charitable work. This may include:

  • Your name, email address and postal address (e.g. when you subscribe, donate, sponsor a child or contact us).

  • Donation and sponsorship details, including amount, frequency and Gift Aid declarations where applicable.

​

  • Communications you send us by email, post, social media or contact form.

​

  • Basic technical information collected automatically when you visit the site, such as IP address, browser type, device and pages viewed.

Donations made via Donorbox are processed by Donorbox and their payment partners. We do not store your full card or bank details on our systems.

3. How we use your information

We use your personal data to:

  • Process donations and sponsorships, including reclaiming Gift Aid where eligible.

​

  • Send updates about the children, school, farm and other projects in Mushunga, where you have asked to receive them.

​

  • Respond to enquiries, feedback and requests for information.

​

  • Keep proper financial, safeguarding and trustee records as required by UK charity law.

​

  • Improve the website and understand how supporters engage with our work.

4. Lawful basis for processing

We rely on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR:

  • Contract — to administer your donation, sponsorship or other arrangement with us.

  • Trusted service providers (e.g. Donorbox, email and website hosting) who act on our instructions under written agreements.

  • HMRC, for Gift Aid claims.

​

  • The Charity Commission, auditors, and other regulators were required by law.

  • Our project team in Mushunga, Uganda, only where needed to administer sponsorship or programme work, and always with appropriate safeguards.

6. Children and safeguarding

Photographs, names and stories of children in our care are shared only with the informed consent in line with our safeguarding policy. We do not publish information that could place a child at risk. If you believe content on this site raises a safeguarding concern, please contact us immediately.

7. How long we keep your data

We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above or to meet legal, accounting and reporting requirements (typically for financial and Gift Aid records).

8. Keeping your data secure

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Where data is processed outside the UK (for example by our project team in Uganda), we put suitable safeguards in place.

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
